  • Cardholders registered with EzRewards loyalty programme to be rewarded with 5 times the points till 28 February 2011

December 22, 2010 – PaymentLink Pte Ltd (“PaymentLink”) and Burger King Singapore Pte. Ltd. (“BURGER KING®”) today announced, with immediate effect, the acceptance of concession and ez-link card payments at BURGER KING® restaurants in Singapore. PaymentLink, the company behind this cashless payment initiative, has put in place 178 contactless point-of-sale (POS) terminals in BURGER KING®’s 43 outlets islandwide.

With this move, hamburger giant BURGER KING® becomes the first western quick service burger chain to accept payment from concession and ez-link cards since the Singapore Standard for Contactless ePurse Applications (CEPAS) was introduced in December 2008. Currently, concession and ez-link cards have the highest wallet penetration amongst all payment cards in Singapore, with over 6 million concession and ez-link cards in circulation.

“At the core of the BURGER KING® brand is our commitment to empower our customers by giving them choices. In keeping with this, our customers will now have the added option and convenience of paying with their concession and ez-link cards, which almost every Singaporean possesses. This partnership with PaymentLink to provide cashless payment will enhance our POS transaction process, making payments at our counters more efficient and speedier than ever before. We are confident our customers will appreciate the greater convenience afforded by this cashless mode of payment,” said Mr Eric Foo, General Manager, Burger King Singapore Pte. Ltd.

In an ongoing promotion, BURGER KING® diners who pay for their orders using the concession or ez-link card will enjoy 50 cents off a Hershey’s Sundae Pie valued at $2.75, when they accumulate a minimum spend of $8.00 in a single receipt at the restaurant.

Mr Jeremy Tan, Managing Director of PaymentLink Pte Ltd, commented, “Our partnership with BURGER KING® is a step forward in promoting the adoption of cashless payment in the fast food scene where speed is of the essence. Given BURGER KING®’s popularity and strong distribution network, we believe that BURGER KING®’s acceptance of concession and ez-link cards as a payment mode will enable us to reach out to more consumers.”

In conjunction with the launch, PaymentLink will be running a ‘5x EzRewards Points’ promotion to reward concession and ez-link cardholders registered under its loyalty programme, EzRewards (www.ezrewards.com.sg). From now till 28 February 2011, members will be awarded 500 EzRewards points for every dollar spent at BURGER KING® instead of the usual 100 EzRewards points for each dollar.

Mr Tan added, “We see a good fit in using the concession or ez-link card for payment at BURGER KING®– customers can literally ‘tap and go’ after giving their order. PaymentLink will continue to work towards expanding our network of retail point-of-sales and encouraging other food and beverage merchants to come onboard. Ultimately, we want consumers to view ez-link card payments as a way of life in Singapore at retail point-of-sales.”

The CEPAS-compliant concession and ez-link cards can storeavalueof up to $500, compared to $100 previously.  This enables cardholders to enjoy greater flexibility when using the card for both transit and non-transit payment – including shopping & retail, private transportation, leisure & entertainment and food & beverage services, amongst others.
